On Scene With the Renault Scenic

As someone with a growing family, all with a multitude of different kit-heavy hobbies, the new Renault Scenic caught my eye immediately. After all, if there's one thing the French have always done well it's people carriers and MPVs. Spotting one at our local Renault Scotland dealership, I was immediately drawn to the robust and stylish look of the car, and as they say, the rest is history.

Three months on and the Renault Scenic still suits us all down to the ground. I like the economical running costs, my wife likes the colour, and the kids approve of the huge number of places they can stuff toys and sweet wrappers on a long journey.

Best of all for me is the boot space. It's pretty impressive, even when compared to the other compact MPVs in the same class as the Renault Scenic. With five spacious seats, too, we're certainly not jammed in like sardines as we were in our previous car. Everything's got a place, from the dog to the mother in law (though she may not like hers).

We went for the Renault Scenic Privilege. Call me extravagant, but I like my 'infotainment' gadgets, and we're not short on them in this car. The climate control is great, and being dual zone there are no more arguments over who's too hot and who's too cold. Driving is so much easier these days - the headlights are automatic and the windscreen wipers are too. It's always good to have someone else be the brain when you've got a couple of hyperactive kids on board.

Having sampled a few similar cars, the Renault Scenic's pretty good to drive, too. It feels like, well, a normal car, rather than a compact MPV. All in all, the whole car's a good result for an active family like mine. If yours is a little bigger than ours, the Grand Scenic seats seven - that's enough children for anyone.
