There is only reason that a dog will jump up when someone comes to the door. In order to understand why they do it, you have to understand a little bit about dogs in general. Dogs crave love and attention, no matter what type of dog or their background. Even if you give the puppy the most attention you could possibly give a dog, they'll still crave more. If you haven't figured it out yet, that is exactly why the dog will jump up on people coming to the door.
To them, that's just one more person that will pay attention to them, so they make sure their presence is known. So how do you go about making sure your dog is getting the attention it needs to stay down and not bother the person at the door?
You have to start by showing absolutely no interest in the dog when you walk in the door. If you pet them and get down on their level and greet them with a big hug or petting, they'll do that every time you (or someone else) comes to the door.
