Can We Really Predict the Future?

Most folks believe that future prediction is literally impossible, and they point to previous prediction that do not come true 95% of the time, and that the remaining times it's either just luck or a rounding statistical error. In fact, not long ago, a Chinese researcher Guang Wu, who works to predict the Influenza Type A virus mutations noted;

Scientific history shows that the best prediction is generally based on mathematical models. The mathematics becomes powerless when we apply is to the real-life world and thus, we have no efficient and effective means to predict future besides thinking based on our experience and knowledge."

There is a lot of truth to that, and as we predict the future, we also often enough achieve a self-fulfilling prophesy. Why? Well, in my view; "The easiest way to predict the future is to create it" and although I am not a Calvinist by any means, nor to I buy into the "fate" or any other such concept; I still have noted my accurate predictions of the future trends by 5-10 years. Much more than that, and I refer to the advice in the "Black Swan" book as an alternative to such observations.

Prediction is not impossible, as long as you do not "own the idea" or claim it as you add additional components or layers of data too it. Yes, there can by unlimited numbers of pathways, like connections between neuron, and the potential eventualities of neural network flows. Still, there are many different ways to drive a car from where you are to Beijing. Which one you take may not be as important as where you have set out to drive too. Meaning; "The easiest way to predict the future is to create it" and I hope you see that point.

Lance Winslow says whereas it might be difficult to come up with Concrete concepts of the future, you shouldn't let your home's concrete foundation ruin your humble cottage.
