Whether you work a full time job or are a stay-at-home mom, working an income opportunity from home can present some unique challenges.
First of all, when you work an income opportunity from home, there is no one telling you what to do. You are your own boss, with all that entails. That means you are going to have to set your own performance goals and track your own productivity.
There are plenty of tools out there to help you set goals and stay on track, but the point is, unless you know which activities are the best use of your time, you will likely end up wasting a lot of that precious commodity.
So what are the most profitable activities in your income opportunity? It depends on how your opportunity is structured. Hopefully the person who introduced you to it has shown you how to develop a business plan by now. If not, find someone who will. They will be the one to help you figure out the tasks that deserve your personal attention.
Once you determine what those tasks are, you can go about maximizing the time you spend on them. Obviously, the more time you spend on the activities that matter, the more money you will make.
This is going to entail creating a work schedule. It also means that you may have to outsource some of the tasks that need to be done.
Let's say for example that you have three hours per day to work your income opportunity from home. With your business plan in hand, schedule yourself to work accordingly.
The hardest part, though, is keeping to your schedule. You have probably heard the expression "plan your work , then work your plan." Nowhere is this more true than when you work your income opportunity from home. If you are supposed to be writing an article between 7 and 8 in the morning, then that is what you need to be doing during that time.
I have found that it is easy to get distracted if I check my email first thing in the morning. I used to get sidetracked all of the time by new ideas and things that may or may not need my immediate attention. Once I figured out that most things really can wait, I was able to focus a lot better and finish more projects on time.
Nowadays, it is unusual for me to check my email before noon. That is the time I have scheduled for that particular task. By that time, I have a clear perspective on the emails that are relevant to my business and can easily discard anything that is not, without feeling the least bit guilty.
Of course everyone is different and you will have to find whatever works for you. But if you are finding that you are not getting a lot done every day, you may want to try changing things out in a big way and see if it makes a noticeable difference. I have a very strong feeling that it will.
Another potential challenge to working your income opportunity from home is family life--especially if you are away at work all day and have very little time to spend with your loved ones as it is. In this situation, it is easy to let things slide to the point of not even doing them.
However, even if you can only carve out 30 minutes a day to work on your business (you will do well to outsource here), even if you have to wake up a little earlier in the morning or give up part of your lunch hour, you will be surprised at what a little consistency can do for your bottom line.
No matter what, you just don't want to get into the habit of treating your business like a hobby. Otherwise it will pay you like a hobby--not very much, or nothing at all. It may even end up costing you money.
