A heated pet bed can be a great way to keep your pet warm in cooler months. But did you also know they can benefit from one all year round? Many air-conditioned homes are too cold for small pets, because the coldest place in the house is the floor, where pets spend 99% of their time. But a heated pet bed can help keep them more comfortable. Here are some tips when you go out to buy a heated dog bed.
First of all, make sure the dog bed has a chew resistant cord. This is needed for safety, to protect your dog from getting shock by chewing on the cord.
Second, look for a bed that has a removable, stain resistant cover. Since a heated pet bed is an investment, a removable, washable cover, keeps the bed looking newer longer.
Third, find a heated dog bed that is UL or CUL listed. This means that the Underwriters Laboratory has inspected it and has tested the device and it meets their requirements for safety (fire, shock, etc.)
Fourth, If you plan to use the heated pet bed outside in a garage, kennel, or on a porch, make sure it is weather proof. Even though these beds are listed as weather proof, it is a good idea to protect them from rain or moisture.
By using these criteria you can find a heated pet bed that is not only safe, but very comfortable for your dog. If you have a cat, you can also buy heated cat beds as well. Just use the same criteria here as well for those.
